Prof. Dr. VOJKAN STANIĆ, President of the Serbian Medical Society (SMS)
Colonel in the Army of Serbia and Montenegro.
Specialist in thoracic and cardiovascular surgery.
Medical doctor.
Associate professor of thoracic surgery at the Military Medical Academy (MMA).
Adviser in the MMA Administration.
Born on 6 November 1950 in Niš, where he completed primary and secondary school. He graduated from the Medical University in Belgrade in 1976.
He completed his specialisation in thoracic and cardiovascular surgery at the MMA in 1987. After the completion of his specialisation he worked as a thoracic surgeon at the Clinic for Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery at the MMA.
He carried out his advanced expert training, lasting 3 months, at the Royal Brompton Hospital in London in 1990.
He defended his doctoral dissertation titled, “The Advantages of Limited Resection over a Suture in the Primary Care of Penetrative Pulmonary Battle Injuries,” in 1995, this being his own surgical care technique for pulmonary war injuries.
The focus of his work and research is related to trauma of the rib cage, surgery of the major airways, as well as the reconstruction of congenital anomalies and major post-resectional defects of the walls of the rib cage.

Teaching Activities
At the MMA, he gives lectures on thoracic surgery to doctors doing their postgraduate studies and to doctors doing their specialisations, as well as to doctor listeners of SOŠ. He is a member of the Examining Board of the MMA for the taking of the specialist exam in thoracic surgery.
Scientific Activities
He is the co-author of two books, which are official textbooks at the Medical University in Belgrade (Lung Tumours and Thoracic Surgery).
He has published more than one hundred articles in domestic and foreign journals.
War Biography
Stayed at the war hospital in Knin during 1993 and provided care to the wounded.

To date, he has been commended and decorated on numerous occasions. All of his official marks have been exceptional.
