Prof. dr MILOŠ IGNJAČEV, Vice-President of the SMS
Born in Belgrade in 1941.
Completed secondary school and Medical University in Belgrade in 1967.
Passed the specialist exam in ophthalmology in 1973, and received his Masters in 1974.
Received his Ph.D. from the Medical University in Belgrade in 1981.
Became an assistant in the area of ophthalmology in 1979, and an assistant professor in 1986.
Became an associate professor in 1986, and a full professor in 1991.
Became Head of the KBC “Zvezdara” Clinic for Ocular Disorders in 1991.
From November 2000 to September 2001 was acting director of KBC “Zvezadara.” During the 1986/87 school year, worked at the Medical University in Novi Sad and at the eye clinic there (assistant professor and member of the Collegial-Business Board).
From 1992 to 1994 worked as a consultant in ophthalmology at the Eye Clinic in Kuwait (Ibn Sina Hospital).
Focussed on the problems of the pathology of glass bodies and the retina.
The first in Yugoslavia to introduce the silicon oil operative method for the inner tamponade in the most difficult surgical procedures of retinal ablations, diabetic retinopathies, and eye injuries.
Published 70 expert scientific works.
Carried out advanced training in Berlin, Essen, Köln, Tübingen, Rotterdam, Cambridge, London, Antwerp, Paris, Wellington, and Boston.
Currently, the Head of the KBC “Zvezdara” Clinic for Ocular Disorders and a professor in ophthalmology at the Medical University in Belgrade.
Father of two children.
